Inspired By VGM

This section is for releases that are either inspired by video games, video game music or is related to a game franchise but not included in it. Arranged and orchestral versions will not be included here. It’s a tricky distinction and I will keep working on it to make clear what is covered in this section


Asteroids

A 7″ containing a short story about Asteroids alongside a read-along book was released by Kid Stuff in 1982.

Bubble Bobble

A 12″ containing remade versions of the game music alongside a video game medley by the duo Game Boys was released on Full Time Records in 1993.

Chou Senshi Zaider: Battle Of Pegas

A 7″ featuring two songs by Satori Matsumoto inspired by the game. It was released by Polydor in 1986.

Circus

The Japanese group Yellow Magic Orchestra featured synth remixes of the music and sound effects used in Circus and Space Invaders on their 1978 self-titled album.

Deep Dungeon IV: Kuro No Youjutsushi

A 7″ featuring songs by Kenzo Saeki and Misako Honjoh was released as a promotional item for this game. It was released by Crystal Bird in 1989.

Dig Dug

Synth-pop Song by Digital Air (aka. Gary Wright) released in 1984. Inspired by the game, but not otherwise related.

Donkey Kong

A song by Jerry Buckner and Gary Garcia titled Do The Donkey Kong was a single from their album “Pac-Man Fever” released in 1982 on Columbia.

An album of featuring a story and children’s songs inspired by the game was released by Kid Stuff in 1983.

A 7″ single featuring songs by Anna Makino that are inspired by the game was released on Apollon Music Industrial Corp. in 1987.

A 7″ single featuring songs by Syoji Kohkami that are inspired by the game was released on Apollon Music Industrial Corp. in 1988.

Hotline Miami 2

Dubmood has made the album Force De Frappe with tracks made for the Hotline Miami 2 soundtrack. Those tracks ended up not being featured on the Hotline Miami 2 soundtrack and was made available alongside new original material on a black vinyl LP. It is limited to 200 copies and released by Data Airlines.

A 7″ single featuring songs by Mayumi Chiwaki that are inspired by the game was released on Eastworld in 1986.

A single titled Lemmings that used samples from the game was made by SFX and released on Parlophone in 1993.

A 7″ containing a short story about Missile Command alongside a read-along book was released by Kid Stuff in 1982.

Pac-Man / Ms. Pac-Man

Numerous releases related to Pac-Man have been released over the years.

Rayman Legends

A 7″ with the song Picture Perfect Phantasy by 4 Player Co-Op was released by Newscienceagency in 2013. The song is inspired by the game. The 7″ was released in collaboration with Ubisoft and all proceedings went to the Make Yourself Foundation. It was limited to 100 copies on clear with orange burst vinyl.

Risa No Yousei Densetsu

A 7″ with songs by Risa Tachibana that are inspired by the game was released by Toshiba EMI in 1988.

Seiken Psycho Caliber

A 7″ with songs by Poppins that are inspired by the game was released by CBS in 1987. Not much info on this release exists.

Sonic The Hedgehog

A single titled (They Call Me) Sonic was release by German trance artist Sonic in 1996 on CNR Music.

An EP by F.  Off Productions was released in 2002. The track Enter The Taken uses character voices from the game.
